英文系源于1961年创办的温州师范学院外语科，是温州师范学院最早招生的院系之一，汇聚了一支热爱教育事业、教学科研能力强的高素质教师队伍，形成了悠久的英语师范教育传统，被誉为浙南中小学英语教师的摇篮。英语（师范）本科专业是温州大学“十二五”、“十三五”校级重点建设专业，长期以来都是温州大学文理科录取分数最高的专业之一。英文系坚持以立德树人为根本任务，遵循“学生中心、产出导向、持续改进”的原则，构建“SMART”人才培养模式，全面打造新时代所需要的英语人才。英文系学生思想品德优秀，语言功底扎实，师范技能突出，英语专业四、八级通过率高，在各种专业竞赛中获奖多，深受用人单位欢迎。英文系每年都有不少毕业生考取国内外著名高校的研究生，还有部分优秀学生被选派到国内外高校学习交流。

   The history of the Department of English can be dated back to the founding of Foreign Language Department of Wenzhou Normal College in 1961. It is one of the earliest departments of Wenzhou Normal College to enroll students. Our department has brought together an excellent faculty who are devoted to English teaching and academic research in humanities and social sciences. With a long tradition of English teacher education, our department has been recognized as the cradle of English teachers for primary and secondary schools in southern Zhejiang Province. The undergraduate major of English Education has been one of the school-level key majors in the 12th and the 13th Five-Year plan of Wenzhou University. The admission scores of our department have long been one of the highest among all majors in arts and sciences of Wenzhou University. The Department has prioritized the fundamental task of bringing up talents with excellent morality and character by implementing the principles of students-centered education, outcome-based education, and continuous quality improvement, and by constructing a training model of “SMART”, in order to cultivate well-rounded English talents in the New Era. Our students have enhanced their morality and character, consolidated their English proficiency and competence, and improved their teaching skills in English after four years’ hard work. The majority of students have passed TEM 4 and TEM8 required by English major. They have won many awards in a variety of professional competitions and contests. They have established a renowned reputation for themselves in the talent market. Every year, many graduates of the Department have been admitted to graduate schools of famous universities at home and abroad, and some outstanding students are sent to study in universities at home and abroad by exchange programs.
